Our Philosophy

OUR INSPIRATION
MECHA MENDEZ is an Argentinean born accessories brand that arises from the intention of celebrating the richness of Latin American culture. For the production we revive native traditions of the Argentine tradicional braiding “soguería criolla”, and we re-interpreted them changing its materiality.
We work in collaboration with gauchos from the Argentinian littoral, who know the art of braiding threads. MECHA MENDEZ, inspired by Latinoamérica.

OUR PRODUCTS
All our bags are handmade by craftsmen in Argentina. We value and respect labor fair conditions as well as we carefully select our materials from sustainable sources. For this purpose, we only work with vegetable tanned leather, dyed with anilines to give it color.
Vegetable tanned leather refers to the tannage, or the method of tanning the cowhide into leather. It’s called “vegetable” because of the natural tannins used in the tanning process, like tree bark.
Vegetable tanning or veg tan as it’s sometimes called, is one of the oldest methods of tanning known to man. It has literally been around for centuries. But less than 10% of the world's leather is tanned this way today.
What makes this technique so unique is that it can be used to make thicker leather and results in more body and character - perfect for bag making. Vegetable tanned leather also tends to age better and develops a rich patina over time. And it has that awesome classic leather smell!

OUR PURPOSE
We want to contribute with our beautiful and unique planet, and for that reason we plant a native tree on the littoral forest for each bag sold.
